Honoring Valerie Rose Kratochvil: A Young Soul with a Lasting Impact

Her passing on March 4, 2024, at the age of 16 leaves a void that cannot be filled in the hearts of family, friends, and community. A junior at Smithtown High School East, Valerie Rose Kratochvil was the epitome of academic excellence, artistic talent, athletic prowess, and a compassionate spirit.

Academic Excellence

Valerie Rose Kratochvil was a diligent student who kept herself at the grade of straight A’s, reflecting her commitment to learning and aspirations about becoming a pharmacist. She remained an active member of the Music, French, and Social Studies Honor Societies and was scheduled to also join the National Honor Society. Her intellectual curiosity and diligence dictated that such was clearly reflected in her academic pursuit.

Musical Passion

An extraordinary singer, music was her true passion. For three years she participated in New York State School Music Association. She also went on to join the All-County Choir twice in a row. This dedication to the music craft as demonstrated by Valerie reflects her commitment towards her work, as well as her interest to share music among people.

Athletic Involvement

Besides her excellent academic performance and musical ability, Valerie Rose Kratochvil  is also an accomplished athlete. She was a member of the Varsity Winter and Spring Track teams and the Varsity Field Hockey team. Participation in the Long Island Field Hockey Club and Athletes Helping Athletes Club were examples of Valerie’s passion for sports and the desire to serve as a good role model to younger athletes.

Personal Interests and Family Life

Known to her loved ones as “Val”, Valerie was a great bookworm who enjoyed the discovery of new books. She was interested in cooking and baking and especially loved experimenting with new recipes. She simply had good style and also made good use of clothes shopping, curling her hair, and using makeup. Valerie loved family vacations such as skiing trips to Vermont and Lake Tahoe, tropical getaways to the Caribbean, and multi visits to Disney World.

Mrs. Valerie is survived by her parents, Margaret and Kenneth, and her twin sister, Laurie. She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family: Aunt Susan and Uncle Scott Sedacca, Cousins David and Kristen Sedacca; Uncle Ken Fee, Cousin Kerry Fee; Uncle Peter Fee; Aunt Anne and Ray Redeman, Cousins Jessica and Kaitlyn Redeman; Uncle Anthony and Aunt Donna Termini, Cousins Bella, Joey, and Lucy Termini; Aunt Mildred and Uncle Phil Musco. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Marilyn and Kenneth Kratochvil, Ann and Matthew Fee, and her great-grandfather Vincent Petrolino.

A Lasting Legacy

Valerie Rose Kratochvil warmth, compassion, and zest for life left a mark on all those she came into contact with. Her memory inspires us as we remember how one person can change the face of their community. As we look back on her life, we are reminded to hold our loved ones dear and to try to make a difference in this world.

A GoFundMe campaign was set up to help her family through this challenging phase, paying tribute to the memory of Valerie. The general public has definitely shown love and given much-needed support to the fact that such a life was lived and is being left behind.

Valerie’s life, though tragically cut short, was filled with achievements, love, and joy. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
